Terms of Use

In short: Avec Maya is for grown-ups to use with their children. Only make a voice from your own voice, only add photos you're allowed to use, and listen along now and then, because stories are written by AI. Avec Maya is in private beta, so things may change. These terms sit alongside Apple's standard licence terms.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and 1273 Software Ltd (“we”, “us”), the maker of Avec Maya. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.
If you downloaded Avec Maya from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If the two conflict, these terms apply, except where Apple's terms say otherwise.
The beta
Avec Maya is in a private beta with a limited number of places. During the beta:
- features may change, be removed or occasionally stop working, and we may sometimes need to reset stories or settings;
- places are limited, and we decide who is offered one. Joining the waitlist doesn't guarantee a place;
- we may end the beta, or change who has access, at any time;
- if you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve Avec Maya without owing you anything for them.
Your account
- You must be 18 or over, and a parent, carer, or someone with the family's permission, to create an account.
- You're responsible for your account and for keeping your grown-ups PIN private.
- Your child may use the app while you're responsible for them, but the account is yours.
Your voice
You may only make a voice from recordings of your own voice, and only with your consent, which the app asks you to confirm. Never record or upload anyone else's voice. We may remove a voice if we believe it was made without permission.
Photos
Only add photos of your own child, or of a child you have the right to share. A photo is used only to draw that child in their stories.
Stories are written by AI
Stories, narration and pictures are made by artificial intelligence each time. We guide them carefully to keep them gentle, age-appropriate and free of anything you've asked us to avoid, but AI can occasionally produce something unexpected, inaccurate or not to your taste. Please listen along from time to time, and tell us at omar@1273.co.uk if anything isn't right.
Stories that include coping ideas for things like big feelings or worries are gentle encouragement, not professional advice. They're not a substitute for a doctor, therapist or other specialist.
What's yours
You keep ownership of what you add, such as your child's details, photos and voice recordings. You give us permission to use them only to run Avec Maya for you. The stories made for you are yours to enjoy with your family for personal, non-commercial use. The app itself, including Moonbeam, our designs and our software, belongs to us.
Fair use
Please don't misuse Avec Maya. That includes:
- trying to make content that is harmful, hateful, sexual or otherwise unsuitable for children;
- copying someone else's voice or likeness without permission;
- trying to get around nightly limits, reach other families' information, or disrupt the service;
- reselling or publishing stories made in the app as your own commercial product.
To keep the service running, we may set limits on how many chapters or voices an account can use.
Changes and availability
We're always improving Avec Maya, so features may change. We'll try to keep it running smoothly, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. If we make an important change to these terms, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
Ending your account
You can stop using Avec Maya at any time. To delete your account and everything in it, choose Delete account in the grown-ups area, or email omar@1273.co.uk. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why unless the law stops us.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you're a consumer, you also have legal rights that these terms don't affect.
Otherwise, we aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control. Avec Maya is for personal and family use, so we aren't responsible for any business losses.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
