Privacy Policy

In short: a grown-up sets up Avec Maya and tells us about their child so we can write stories for them. We use that information only to make and play those stories. There are no ads, no tracking and no analytics, and we never sell your information. You can delete any of it at any time.
Who we are
Avec Maya is made by 1273 Software Ltd (“we”, “us”). We are responsible for your information under UK and EU data protection law. For anything about privacy, email omar@1273.co.uk.
Who uses the app
Avec Maya is for parents and carers of children aged 3 to 8. Only an adult can create an account, and all the information about a child is entered by that adult in the PIN-protected grown-ups area. Children listen to stories and pick from picture tiles, but they can't type anything, add information, or contact anyone through the app. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email address, or if you use Sign in with Apple, an Apple account ID and the email Apple shares with us (which can be a private relay address) | To sign you in and to reply if you contact us. |
| Your subscription: which plan you're on, its dates and renewal status. We never see your card details; Apple handles payment. | To give you the stories your plan includes. |
| Your email address, if you join the beta on our website | To hold your place, send your beta invite, and send the occasional update about Avec Maya. Nothing else is collected with it. |
| Your child's profile: first name, age, pronouns, favourite things, things to avoid, comfort toy, and, if you choose, things they find hard, are proud of, and their best qualities | To write stories that suit your child and leave out what they don't like. |
| A photo of your child (optional) | Only to draw your child in their story pictures. |
| Voice recordings (optional) | To make a copy of your voice that narrates stories. We delete the recordings from our storage once your voice is made. |
| Photos for storyteller tiles (optional) | To show on the storyteller buttons in the app. |
| Stories we make for you: text, audio, pictures, and the choices your child picks | So your child can replay stories and continue them. |
| Settings: your PIN (stored scrambled, never in plain text), time zone, and chapters per night | To lock the grown-ups area and apply your nightly limit at the right time. |
| A notification token for your phone (only if you turn on story reminders) | To send you a reminder around your usual story times. Reminders never include your child's name or details. Turn them off any time in the grown-ups area. |
| Usage counts: how many stories, pictures and minutes of narration your account uses | To apply your plan's story minutes and nightly limit, and keep the service running. |
We don't collect your location, contacts, advertising identifiers or browsing activity. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking tools. Stories you save for offline listening, and your in-app preferences, stay on your device.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Avec Maya. They process information only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us.
- Convex (database, file storage and servers; data stored in the EU, Ireland) stores everything listed above.
- Google Gemini writes the stories and draws the pictures. For writing, it receives your child's profile, any special request you add, and a recap of the story so far. For pictures, it receives a description of each scene (without your child's name) and, if you added one, your child's photo.
- ElevenLabs turns stories into speech. It receives the story text. If you make a voice, it also receives your recordings and keeps the voice model until you delete it.
- Expo delivers story reminders to your phone, through Apple or Google. It receives your phone's notification token and the reminder text, never your child's details.
- Resend sends your sign-in codes. It receives your email address.
- Apple handles subscription payments and Sign in with Apple, under your own agreement with Apple.
- RevenueCat keeps track of App Store subscriptions for us. It receives an anonymous account ID and your App Store purchase records, never your name, email or child's details.
Some of these providers may process information outside the UK and EU, for example in the United States. Where they do, it's protected by safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We'd only disclose it if the law requires us to.
Our legal basis
We use your information to provide the service you signed up for (contract). If you join the beta on our website, we use your email because you asked us to (consent). Details about your child, their photo and your voice are optional, and we use them only because you choose to add them (consent). You can withdraw consent at any time by removing them in the app.
How long we keep it
- Beta sign-up emails stay until the beta ends, or until you ask us to remove yours.
- Stories, audio and pictures stay until you delete your child's profile or your account.
- Your child's photo stays until you remove or replace it, or delete their profile.
- Your voice stays until you delete it in the app. We delete it from ElevenLabs at the same time. If you never start a plan, we delete your voice about three weeks after you made it.
- When you delete your account, everything linked to it is deleted straight away, including your voice on ElevenLabs. Backups held by our providers are deleted on their normal schedule.
Your choices and rights
In the grown-ups area you can edit or delete your child's profile, remove their photo, and delete your voice. Deleting a child's profile also deletes all of their stories. To delete your whole account, choose Delete account at the bottom of the grown-ups area, or email omar@1273.co.uk from the address you sign in with.
You also have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to take it with you. Email us and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Keeping it safe
Information is encrypted in transit, and access is limited to your signed-in account. Every request is checked so a family can only reach its own information. Photos, recordings and audio are stored privately and can only be reached through unguessable links.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how we use your child's information, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
